On the production front, Karnataka remains the dominant region, contributing over 70% of the country’s coffee output. The state of Kodagu has emerged as a leading export hub, supporting India’s position as a major global coffee exporter. India’s coffee is recognized for its unique flavor profile, influenced by shaded cultivation and monsoon-based processing methods.

Robusta has become the dominant coffee variety, largely replacing arabica due to its resilience and higher yield. Specialty coffee varieties, such as rust-resistant S795 arabica, are gaining traction, catering to premium markets both domestically and abroad.

Consumer preferences are shifting toward premium and specialty coffee products, driven by evolving lifestyles and growing disposable incomes. Major brands and café chains like Starbucks, Café Coffee Day, and Barista are expanding their footprints, contributing to increased out-of-home consumption.

Looking ahead, the Indian coffee market is poised to double by 2030, with innovation, digital platforms, and consumer awareness playing a key role in driving future growth.
