The Indian Institute of Advanced Study in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, is a well-known research center established by the Indian Ministry of Education in 1964. It began operations on October 20, 1965, and is located in the historic Rashtrapati Niwas, which was originally the home of Lord Dufferin, the Viceroy of India, built in the late 1800s.
